Biography

Danish jazz vocalist Helle Rasmussen is one of 3 children and grew up in a suburb near Copenhagen.
Her love for music was passed on to her by her father, who as a young man started an orchestra in
which he played the violin as well as drums. Growing up, Rasmussen would sing and perform for
friends and family and it was quite evident that music, singing, and entertainment was in her blood.

In her teens she discovered the legendary jazz singer Billie Holiday, listening endlessly to her records
day in and day out struck a core in Helle and laid the foundation for her love of jazz. As an autodidact
singer Rasmussen has refined and developed her voice over the years and while you may hear hints of
Anita O´Day, Peggy Lee or Billie Holiday, make no mistake about it, Helle has her own unique voice
which best describes as rich and warm with a soft velvety tone to it.

Although the talent was there, it was to take her many years to live out her dream of performing.
Getting married and divorced a few years down the line, as a single mom her priority was her now
adult son, whom she proudly raised on her own.

Watching Rasmussen perform is a spellbinding experience, along with her beautiful sultry voice
her performance is gracefull, spunky, sensual and present.

A close friend describes Helle as " A woman of substance and confidence yet humble and empathic.
She is a relatively quiet person who does not usually indulge in small talk, she likes deep passionate
conversations about love and life itself. This trait comes across in her songs and I will never get bored,
her voice is so melodious and soothing, I could listen to her all day long. Her vocal style, her persona,
it is clear she is the epitome of jazz and blues "
